minutesHistorically, I haven’t eaten hard boiled eggs often because I would struggle with making them. Either they would be overdone or I could never peel them easily and I’d end up throwing away half of the eggs 😳 I think hard boiled eggs should be quick and easy to prepare, but that isn’t always the case. A quick internet search will result in a dozen different ways to get the “perfect” hard boiled egg – I’ve probably tried most of them! Thankfully I stumbled on Martha’s post on A Family Feast and have been making perfect hard boiled eggs ever since!
Get a perfect egg every time with these simple steps 😀 Eggs are a convenient and affordable source of protein, and can be an easy main component for a delicious breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack. Let’s get cracking!
Ingredients
Eggs
Water
Vinegar
Directions
- Place eggs in large saucepan. Cover with 1 inch of cool water.
- Slowly bring to boil over medium heat. Boil the eggs for exactly five minutes.
- Turn off the heat and let the eggs sit for exactly 15 minutes.
- Pour the water out of the pan. With the eggs still in the pan, shake vigorously to crack the shells.
- Start running cool water over the eggs and begin peeling the shells off of each egg.
- Dry completely on a paper to use in your favorite recipe.
Notes
- Older eggs are easier to peel. If you are planning on making hard boiled eggs and want to ensure the eggs are easy to peel, buy your eggs at least one week ahead of time.
- I always add a teaspoon of vinegar to the water. This helps prevent the egg whites from running out in the event that an egg cracks while cooking.
- Don’t place cold eggs directly into hot water on the stove. Place eggs in cold water in a pot and then turn on the cooktop.
- Hard boiled eggs can be kept in the fridge for up to 5 days in a covered container.
